STATEMENT OF FAITH
My name is Trent Coker. My family and I are church planting missionaries to the country of China with Vision Baptist Missions. We are sent out of Vision Baptist Church in Adairsville, Georgia; under the leadership of Pastor Tommy Coker.
I cannot fully express with written words the burden God has given us for the country of China. China is roughly 20% percent of the world's population, but God has called us to this great task with His great provisions. We are currently working with the Vision For China team from Vision Baptist Missions, with the same goal to reach the country of China with the gospel and plant churches among the darkness.
Below is our information packet. I would be honored if you would allow us to come to your church to present our burden for China, and to consider partnering with us to reach China with their only hope.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration to have our family in your church to share our heart for world evangelism.
We believe the Bible is the Word of God. We believe the Word of God is verbally and plenarily inspired in the original writings, and that God has preserved His pure words to every generation. The Masoretic Text of the Old Testament and the Received Text of the New Testament (Textus Receptus) are those texts of the original languages we accept and use. We believe the King James Bible is the preserved Word of God for English-speaking people. The Bible is our sole and final authority for faith and practice. (Psalm 12:6-8; II Timothy 3:15-17; I Peter 1:23-25; II Peter 1:19-21)
We believe in the Trinity, the unity of the Godhead. There are three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are equally perfect in every divine quality and execute distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption. (A) We believe in God the Father. (B) We believe in Jesus Christ. (C) We believe in the Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1,26 ; Matthew 28:19 ; John 1:1-3,4:24 ; Romans 1:19,20 ; Ephesians 4:5,6)
GOD THE FATHER
We believe in God the Father, an infinite personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. (John 3:16-17, 4:24, 17:5)
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and save man from the penalty and power of sin. We believe the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross in our place as a substitute for us, and that our salvation is made sure by His resurrection. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ was raised bodily and that He ascended to Heaven. He is now at the right hand of God, where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of representative, intercessor, and advocate. (Isaiah 7:14,9:6 ; Luke 1:35 ; John 1:1-2,14 ; Acts 1:9-10 ; Romans 3:24-25,8:34 ; Galatians 4:4-5 ; Ephesians 1:7 ; Philippians 2:5-8 ; Hebrews 7:25,9:24 ; I Peter 1:3-5,2:24 ; I John 2:1-2)
THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the Person who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. We believe that He indwells and seals every believer until the day of redemption. We believe that He is our comforter in this world and our guide into all truth. We believe that we are commanded to be filled with the Holy Spirit in order to live the Christian life. (John 14:16-17,14:26,16:8-11 ; Romans 5:8;8:9 ; Ephesians 1:13-14,5:18 ; II Corinthians 3:6)
We believe that the clear message of salvation is “repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ”. We believe that salvation is “by grace through faith". We believe that Jesus Christ died for every person, and that each individual chooses to accept or reject the grace of God. We believe that men are justified by faith alone and are accounted righteous before God only through the merit of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (John 1:12, Acts 20:2,Ephesians 2:8-10, Hebrews 2:9, I Peter 1:18-19, I John 2:2)
We believe in the eternal security of all believers, and that eternal life is a present possession. We believe that each believer is kept by the power of God and nothing can separate us from Him, ourselves included. We believe that we can lose the joy of fellowship with God, can grieve God and can quench the Spirit of God in our lives. (John 3:16,5:24,6:37-39,10:27-30 ; Romans 8:35-39 ; Philippians 1:6 ; Titus 1:2 ; 1 Peter 1:5 ; 1 John 5:11-13 ; Jude 24)
We believe that the New Testament church is a local assembly of baptized believers who have voluntarily joined themselves together to carry out the Great Commission. We believe the Lord is doing His work in this world through local churches. The establishment and continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures. We believe in the autonomy of the local church free of any external authority or control. Christ is the only head of the church. (Acts 13:1-4,14:27,15:19-31,20:17,28-32 ; Romans 16:1-4 ; 1 Corinthians 3:9,16,5:4-13 ; I Timothy 3:1-13 ; Titus 1:5-11 ; I Peter 5:1-4).
ORDINANCES OF THE CHURCH
We believe Immersion is the biblical method of baptism. We believe that Christian baptism is the single immersion of a believer in water to show forth in a solemn and beautiful figure our identification with the crucified, buried, and risen Savior, through whom we died to sin and rose to new life. That it is the answer of a good conscience toward God and that it is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership. (Matt. 3:16;28:18-20 ; John 3:23 ; Acts 2:41,42,8:36-38 ; Rom. 6:3-5 ; Col. 2:12 ; I Cor. 11:23-28)
2.The Lord's Supper:
The Lords Supper is an opportunity to obey a command of Christ and to recall His sacrifice for us, His presence with us, and His certain return, (1 Corinthians 11:24-28)
We believe that all the saved should live in such a manner as not to bring reproach upon their Savior and Lord and that separation from all religious apostasy, all worldly and sinful pleasures, practices and associations is commanded of God. (Romans 12:1-2,14:13 ; II Corinthians 6:14;7:1 ; II Timothy 3:1-5 ; I John 2:15-17 ; II John 9-11 ; II Corinthians 6:14-7:1)
THE LAST DAYS
We believe in the literal interpretation of the Scriptures in their grammatical and historical context. We believe in the pre-tribulational rapture of the church saints, followed by the seven-year tribulation. We believe in the pre-millennial return of Christ to the Earth and His literal rule of 1,000 years. Following this one thousand year reign is the Great White Throne judgment, and then the new heaven and new earth. (I Corinthians 15:51-58 ; I Thessalonians 4:13-18,5:1-9 ; Revelation 19-22)
Get to know us
I grew up in Adairsville, Georgia as a "PK" (preachers kid). I heard the gospel since I could first remember, but the Holy Spirit brought great conviction to my heart one night on the way home from church. For the first time in my life, as a nine year old boy, I was burdened greatly by my lost condition. My Mother, who is now with the Lord, looked at me as we filed into our home that night and asked, "You okay?" Apparently she could see that I was troubled. I told her no, and that I wanted to be saved. We knelt by my parents bedside that night as they rehearsed the gospel to me once again. I place my faith in Jesus Christ that night on February 23rd 2000.
Call To Ministry
As I grew up, I also grew slowly apart from God. I found myself in a constant state of longing to serve Him, but with an unwillingness to surrender totally to that God-given desire. Post high-school, God began to work in my life through people and circumstances to draw me lovingly into total surrender. Through this, He brought to my attention the brevity of life and urgency of the call to follow Him. He greatly used James 4:14 “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” I told Shyenne (who later became my wife) that God had called me to preach His word and serve in ministry. A few days later on August 20th 2013, God spoke to my heart during a sermon on Gideon. That night, I announced my call to preach. I preached my first message on September 15, 2013.
Since then, I have served alongside my Pastor, and Dad, as part of a church plant that was started in 2012. I have continued serving/learning under him the past seven years in different capacities. I have preached, ran the sound booth, lead music, taught adults, teens, and children. I have ran van routes, knocked on doors, handled missions' finances, and whatever else needed to be done. I have discovered so much joy in serving in my local church, but God began a work in my heart years ago to serve where His name was not proclaimed. I have desired to be a missionary for years, but always felt that I should prepare where I was. I attended North Georgia Baptist College for four years and received a Bachelor Of Theology With a Major in Bible. Upon Graduation I continued to serve in my local church. During the past seven years I have also worked as an aircraft mechanic for an aircraft services company named Phoenix Air Group. This unique company allowed me the opportunity to spend several months overseas. God used this time to further cement the desire to see His name proclaimed in the dark corners of the world.
As I sought the Lord about the next step to take, He began to reveal the great need in the country of China. Over the course of months, I continued to seek the Lord about being a church planter in that dark country. I now know that God has called us to this great task in China. Beginning in January 2020, I began to intern with Vision Baptist Missions in Alpharetta, Georgia. I continue to train with Vision Baptist Missions today. I look forward to the day, Lord willing, that I will land in China. I desire greatly to train leaders and plant churches there. There are 1.4 billion people there who need to know the Lord Jesus Christ before it is too late.
I did not grow up in a Christian household. I grew up with a mother that had a drug problem, a brother who eventually followed in our mother's footsteps, and a grandmother who did the best she could to raise me. I grew up with a family that believed God was optional. I had gone to church occasionally with other people, and I had heard the gospel many times. I had the mentality that “When I can live it, I’ll do it”. I always thought, “I have plenty of time to live for God.” Deep down I was miserable, and I remember feeling like something was missing. For a long time I was bitter with my life and my past. I was bitter that I wasn’t enough for my mother to be who I needed her to be. I was bitter that I wasn’t enough for my unknown father to stay. I was bitter that my brother had died just a few years earlier by a drug overdose. Although I was grateful for my grandmother, a loving aunt, and others, I was still angry for what I didn’t have. I was missing true joy in my life. In 2011, I met Trent. I went to church with him occasionally (if I was off work and didn’t have something else going on). A couple of months after we started dating I remember Trent's Dad telling me, “if you are going to be a part of this family, you’re going to have to get in church”. Needless to say, I haven't missed many services since. Around March 2013 God really started dealing with my heart. Trent told me he was done living a life on the fence, and that he was going to live for God from that point forward. He told me I could go with him on this journey, but if I wanted to walk away, he would understand (after all, I wasn't saved). He told me that he wanted me by his side, but he wasn’t going to force it. I told him I’d follow him anywhere he went. On May 6th, 2013, during a Jubilee meeting at the church, I asked God to save me, and it was the best decision I have ever made. I remember feeling like this huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. I finally found joy. With God I gained the strength to let go of the bitterness I always had. I learned to truly love, because I know the love of God. I’ve learned the Christian life is not always easy, but God is always faithful. I thank God for the life He has given me. I thank Him for my husband that is not afraid to lead our home, and for our three beautiful girls. He has blessed me more than I ever deserved. I might not have had an earthly father, but I have found a Heavenly Father... It just took me awhile to find him. My Lord has always taken good care of me.

"It is with great joy that I can recommend Trent and Shyenne Coker to the ministry and work that God has called them to in China. Even though Trent is my son, he has also been a co-laborer in the ministry of our church. Since the very foundation of Vision Baptist Church over 7 years ago, Trent has been faithful to serve in many capacities and ministries of the church, including door to door outreach, teaching Sunday school, leading music, and serving as our Missions Director. I have watched the Lord use him, and grow him in his personal life and ministry through his dedication to the church, to Bible college, and to his family. In the last 2 years, Trent and Shyenne have been our Youth Ministry leaders, and God has used them to work with our young people and grow a faithful youth group in the church.
Trent is faithful to his family as well, demonstrating Christ-like character in loving and supporting his family and their needs. Shyenne is a loving mother to her children, staying home to raise them in the ways of the Lord. She is also very faithful to the church. Most importantly, she serves and supports her husband, laboring by his side in the work of ministry.
Having been the pastor of both Trent and Shyenne since both have been Christians, I am fully persuaded that they will prove as faithful in the work of missions, as they have been in the places God has used them up to this point. They have my complete support and I recommend them without reserve!"

"Hello in the Name of our Lord and Savior,
I am writing to heartily recommend the Coker family for the work whereunto the Lord has called them. I have personally known Trent for years. During that time, he has proven himself to be a man of sober mind and steady temperance. As well, he has consistently demonstrated diligence and proficiency in his studies and service to our Savior. His wife, Shyenne, loves the Lord, her husband, and their children. Her Christian character is noteworthy. I believe she will greatly compliment her husband in the work the Lord has for them.
Making Christ Known,"
Senior Pastor, Catoosa Baptist Tabernacle
I have known Trent and Shyenne Coker before they were married and have watched them grow in their walk with the Lord. They have faithfully served the Lord in their home church while working full time and attending Bible College.
This family has prayed much about this decision to serve God as a missionary. They are committed to their calling.
I can highly recommend them because they are genuinely who they say they are. I have no doubt they are worthy of your support. Thank you for your prayerful consideration of the Coker family."
